Trauma Recovery and Empowerment for Adolescent Girls and Young Women Ages 12–18

Mental Health Does Not Currently Meet Criteria

Trauma Recovery and Empowerment for Adolescent Girls and Young Women Ages 1218 (G-TREM) is an adaptation of the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) designed for girls who have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse or witnessed violence. G-TREM is a group intervention that aims to enhance trauma recovery and coping skills, decrease risk of re-victimization, and strengthen girls’ overall functioning.

Each session is structured as a conversation about a relevant topic and is led by two or three group leaders. Group leaders form multiple groups with narrow age ranges to ensure conversation topics are age appropriate.

Group leaders guide participants through an icebreaker, questions, and an experiential exercise in which participants complete an activity related to the topic, such as creating a “comfort booklet” with pictures of comforting things when learning about self-soothing strategies. G-TREM includes sessions focused on various topics related to trauma recovery, including managing emotional and physical boundaries in relationships, self-care, peer pressure, developing trust, and managing feelings and behaviors.
